NewQuest Geotechnology Sponsoring UI IWGTB 2016

PT. NewQuest Geotechnology supports IWGTB (International Workshop on Geothermal Technology and Business) on 25-26 October 2016 in Balairung UI, Depok. The event brought together the geothermal experts from academics, government, and business people from domestic and abroad. For two days, IWGTB UI 2016 presents a series of activities of panel discussions, technical presentation and gala dinner.

As a host, Vice Rector of UI Prof. Dr. Bambang Wibawarta revealed that the long-term goal of this program is to build the UI-GRC (UI Geothermal Research Center).

“This program is a UI role in the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia. UI has a lot of human resources in the geothermal expertise. We are ready to form a geothermal facility in the UI. Rector will submit to the SAU (Senat Akademik Universitas/Academic Senate of University) to be processed it, according to the administrative mechanism.” Bambang said.

UI IWGTB 2016 was opened by Dr. Agus Hermanto (Deputy Speaker of Indonesia Parliament/DPR RI). “DPR RI has been held SOM (Senior Officials Meeting). One of the discussion is that Indonesia must establish a geothermal research center coordinated by Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) collaborating with universities, such as UI, ITB and UGM. It is important because geothermal is full technology and investment. ” Agus said.

While the chairman of the UI IWGTB 2016, Dr. Yunus Daud revealed that this program is not only an event, but also it has a huge vision in the future. “We want to convey to the public that the UI has a role in the development of geothermal, research of exploration and production, education, and community engagement. And a milestone for the establishment of geothermal research center at UI.”
